Brushwork is an oil painting and pencil sketch effect for After Effects and Premiere Pro, $7.99. It paints and draws footage with real strokes instead of filtering its pixels. In oil, big shapes go on first, then smaller and smaller strokes where the picture needs them, and the paint piles up and catches a light you can move. In pencil and pen, the drawing starts from its edges: dark, restated outlines first, then rough patches of straight hatching, with the paper left bare. Keyframe Paint On and the shot paints itself.

Every look, and the smeared text
The same shot through each look, as it comes out of the box, redrawn every other frame. Then text: on a layer with transparency, big strokes run past the letters, and Edge Smear tones that back.

What's on the disk
- Real strokes, planned from big shapes to small, not a filter over the pixels
- Oil, in three looks: Old Master, Dark Glaze and Bold, with paint that piles up on canvas and catches a light you can move
- Pencil and pen, in four looks: Graphite, Pen and Ink, Colored Pencil and Pale on Dark
- A sketch starts from its edges: dark, restated outlines, then rough straight hatching, with the paper left bare
- Paint On: keyframe it and the shot paints itself; a sketch draws its outlines, then its shading
- Repaint Every: a new painting every frame, or held for up to 24, like hand-painted animation
- On macOS, finds faces so eyes and mouths get the careful strokes, and finds the subject so a sketch can leave the background bare
- Focus Point: put the attention where you want it by hand
- Edge Smear: how far paint runs past text and logos
- Half resolution shows the same painting; seeded, so every render matches; 8, 16 and 32 bpc, Multi-Frame Rendering

Questions
What does DISKO Brushwork do?
DISKO Brushwork is an effect for After Effects and Premiere Pro: footage painted and drawn stroke by stroke, in oil, pencil and pen. It costs $7.99, paid once, with a free trial.
Why not use After Effects' built-in Brush Strokes or Cartoon effect?
Both are filters: they work on the pixels that are already there, so a face gets the same treatment as a wall, and there are no strokes to animate. Brushwork plans its strokes first: small careful ones where the picture needs them, big loose ones elsewhere, and Paint On can lay them down one by one.
Why not use After Effects' built-in Find Edges for the sketch look?
Find Edges turns every edge it finds into a line, with no idea which ones matter. Brushwork finds the lines first, then draws them the way a hand does: straight movements with corners, gone over more than once, heaviest on the subject's outline, with rough hatching added afterward and bare paper left around it.
Do the strokes follow what moves in the shot?
No. Each repaint is a new painting of that frame, so moving footage boils the way hand-painted animation does. Repaint Every sets how often. Turn off New Strokes Each Repaint and the strokes stay put while the picture under them changes.
Is it different on Windows?
Yes. On macOS, Brushwork finds faces and subjects with the Vision framework built into the system, so there is nothing extra to install. Windows has neither: use Focus Point to place the attention, and a sketch covers the whole frame instead of leaving the background bare. Windows is a beta, like the rest of the suite.
Will it preview in real time?
No. Every frame is planned and painted stroke by stroke. A held painting doesn't repaint until Repaint Every says so, and half resolution shows the same painting faster.
Does Brushwork work in a linear project?
Yes. It follows the After Effects project's color settings automatically (linear or video), and Pixel Values lets you set it by hand.
Can I get Brushwork with the others?
Yes: the DISKO Motion V1 box set is every effect for $59.99, against $95.88 one by one.
What is DISKO Motion?
DISKO Motion is a suite of effects for After Effects and Premiere Pro, made by DISKO Labs: DISKO Typetrace (font-aware write-on animation for live text); DISKO Flow (aI frame interpolation for smooth slow motion and speed ramps); DISKO Shutter (real-looking motion blur, added after the fact); DISKO Balance (one click evens out every shot: clean exposure, natural skin, every camera matched); DISKO Match (match a shot's color to any reference frame); DISKO Glitch (52 original glitch recipes plus a full Custom mode); DISKO Inferno (procedural fire, smoke, sparks and heat from any layer); DISKO Unboil (three repair modes in one: steady AI video, clean noisy footage, rescue crushed compression); DISKO Stitch (any text or logo sewn on in thread, stitch by stitch); DISKO Neon (any text or logo as glass neon tubes that power on and flicker); DISKO Decades (twenty looks from other eras, from wet plate and silent film to VHS and datamosh); DISKO Brushwork (footage painted and drawn stroke by stroke, in oil, pencil and pen). Each is $7.99, or the whole DISKO Motion V1 box set is $59.99, paid once. Every effect has a free, fully featured trial.
How does the license work?
You pay once: $7.99 for an effect, or $59.99 for the box set (DISKO Motion V1). We email you a license code tied to your email address; paste it into any DISKO effect and the watermark is gone. One license is for one person, on up to three computers they use. No subscription, no account.
Do the effects need the internet?
Only the purchase does. The license code is checked on your own computer, so the effects work offline: on a plane, on location, on a render machine with no network.
Can I try them before I buy?
Yes. Every effect is fully featured before you buy. Renders carry a DISKO MOTION TRIAL watermark until you enter a license code, and watermarked output is for trying things out, not for delivery.
What happens when V2 comes out?
V1 is yours for good, and every 1.x update is free. V2 will be a paid upgrade, and your V1 keeps working if you skip it.
Can I get a refund?
Try the free trial first: it's the full effect, just watermarked. If an effect you bought won't run on your setup and we can't fix it, email [email protected] within 30 days and we'll refund it. Refunded codes may stop working in a later update.
