Made for documentary

Find the line, not just the file.

A documentary is a few hundred hours of interviews and b-roll, and one line you heard three weeks ago. DISKO transcribes every interview with speaker labels, writes down what happens in every shot and reads every sign, on your machine, so the whole shoot is searchable by what was said or what was seen.

Real searches

Real searches in our own library.

We make documentaries, and these are searches in the library we cut them from. Each one lands on the clip shown. People are left unnamed here; in the app you name them once.

A forester interviewed among giant sequoias.
Search: wildfire

A line from an hour-long interview: "Right now, much of the research on giant sequoias is being driven by recent wildfires." DISKO plays it from that word.

Looking up a giant sequoia at a climber on a rope.
Search: someone climbing a redwood with a rope

A climber partway up a giant sequoia, found from what happens in the shot. Its file name is C5183.MP4.

A trail sign reading Lady Alice at the base of a giant sequoia.
Search: text:"Lady Alice"

The trail sign at the foot of one tree, read off the frame. text: searches only the words on screen.

An aerial view of a burned conifer forest below a ridge.
Search: drone over a burned forest

Aerials of standing dead trees after a wildfire, from a 2021 shoot on the same drive.

A climber in a helmet drawing a bow in a forest clearing.
Search: archer in the forest

A tree climber with a bow, the way climbers get a line over a high branch. Nobody tagged it; DISKO described it.

The workflow

From the cards to the first cut.

01

Offload the cards

Copy every card through DISKO and each file is checksum-verified on the way in. The library fills in while the copy is still running.

02

It works the night shift

Overnight, on your machine, DISKO writes down what happens in every clip, moment by moment, transcribes every interview with speaker labels in more than 50 languages, and reads every sign, slate and lower third.

03

Name people once

Name a face once and DISKO finds that person across every drive and every year. Name a voice once and you can search only what one person says.

04

Search what you remember

A word someone said, what happens in a shot, the words on a sign. Play every match in a row, and leave out what you don’t want with a dash: wildfire -smoke.

05

A head start on the cut

The Assistant Editor helps you cut: it syncs the cameras and sound, trims the dead air, strings out the footage, writes the transcript and, from your brief, builds a first assembly, all in one Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve project. The edit starts from a draft instead of a blank timeline, and every cut stays yours to change.

Straight talk

The questions people ask first.

Can DISKO transcribe interviews offline?

Yes. Transcription runs on your machine, with speaker labels, in more than 50 languages. Name a voice once and you can search only what that person says, or export subtitles as SRT.

Does search land on the moment or just the file?

The moment. DISKO writes down what happens in each clip with the time each moment starts, and search lands on that time, on the spoken line or on the frame where a sign was read.

Our footage is spread over years of drives. Does that work?

Yes. Add each drive where it sits; nothing is copied or moved. Unplug a drive and its clips stay in the library, searchable from what DISKO already read, marked offline until you plug it back in.

Can the Assistant Editor help cut the film?

Yes. It syncs the cameras and sound, trims dead air and false starts, strings out the footage and builds a first assembly from your brief, in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. It isn’t there to replace the editor: it gives you a head start, and every cut stays yours to change.

Part of DISKO

Try it on the shoot you’re cutting now.

Point DISKO at a folder of interviews and b-roll tonight. In the morning every shot is described, every word transcribed, and anyone you’ve named is found across every drive. Nothing uploads unless you send it.
